"In Her Voice" Concert Returns September 22 with Grammy-Nominated Tank and the Bangas

We're excited to announce the return of "In Her Voice", our annual community celebration of Black women’s creativity, strength and power, on Friday, September 22 at the Woodward Theater. This year’s concert also marks the fifth anniversary of Queens Village, the community arm of our work. Queens Village is a supportive community of powerful Black women who come together to relax, repower and take care of themselves and each other.

To make this celebration even more memorable, we are thrilled to announce that Grammy-nominated Tank and the Bangas will be headlining, returning five years after their unforgettable performance at the inaugural In Her Voice. The lineup also features performances by Brittany Marie, (CA)^2, DJ Apryl Reign, Quanita Roberson and local youth poets.

Over the past five years, Queens Village has been at the forefront of amplifying Black women's voices and creating spaces for Black women to thrive, lead, and champion their communities. Since its inception, Queens Village has grown from a community of 250 Black women to nearly 3,000 Black women and families.

“It’s been wonderful watching Black women show up for themselves, prioritize their healing and advocate for better maternal and infant health outcomes,” said Dr. Meredith Shockley-Smith, Cradle Cincinnati Executive Director and Queens Village Founder. “Since the launch of Queens Village in 2018, we’ve seen a 16% reduction in local Black infant mortality. In Her Voice is the perfect time to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of Queens Village and Black women throughout Hamilton County.”

"We invite the community to join us at In Her Voice, where we will amplify the powerful voices of Black women and recognize Queens Village's remarkable five-year journey,” said Danyelle Bush, Queens Village Senior Media Strategist. “Together, we'll create an unforgettable experience that reminds us of the importance of diversity, inclusivity and the incredible strength of our community. Let's come together to honor the past, embrace the present, and inspire a future where every voice is heard, valued and celebrated."

About the Artist

Headliner Tank and the Bangas is a Grammy-nominated, New Orleans-based R&B band capable of shifting from classic soul and funk to hip-hop, reggae and rock. Established with their highly energized live show and a handful of independent releases beginning with Think Tank (2013), they won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2017, leading to a major-label contract with Verve that has yielded the albums Green Balloon (2019) and Red Balloon (2022), and the intermediary Friend Goals EP.
